Hi Guys,
This is a great and must have documentary about the pianists in past century. What impressed me most
is the two sections about Horowitz and Michelangeli. Horowitz played " Variations on a Theme from Bizet's
Carmen, for piano" which composed by himself in the film. It is extremely brilliant!!! It drive me a lot of
second thought and research about Horowitz (I did not admire him very much but truly respect him now).
Michelangeli played Sonata for keyboard in B minor, K. 27 (L. 449) by Scarlatti. It is so amazing. He was
so cool and so fantastic. The music just flows out beautifully. As I know, no one has ever recorded this
sonata.
Backhaus is definitely the pianist whom I admire most. I feel a little bit lost because this file did
not put too much on him (maybe I should say not as much as I wish

). However, I still truly appreciate
the interview which he talked about Beethoven 4th Piano Concerto and his playing of 2nd movement of this
work. I also feel lost because this file did not include Rudolf Serkin, and Walter Gieseking. Both of
them are also giants in the art of Piano.
Finally, I would like to point out two things. (1) As you are watching the section of Gould, do not
laugh too loud. (2) If you get the chance to find another documentary: "The Art of Violin, Devil's
instrument" published by the same company. Buy it! I personally consider this is an even better one.
